"96 and still going strong - now!"

About: Pilgrim Hospital

Anything else?

approx 4 weeks ago my 96 yr old father fell over and fractured his femur (hip)i he was taken into boston pilgtim to which, I have to be honest, due to the reviews I was concerned! he was taken in via A& E and was processed through, given pain relief We were then carefully informed of the dangers of the effects of the anesthetic on my dad due to his age, ! He had an op to pin the break then back for recovery to ward 3B within 24 hours of the actual fall. for 48 hours my dad was on the edge with very kow blood pressure and organs not functioning properly We where called in and made fully aware of the possible outcome over this ceitical period; but for the unrelenting efforts of the consultants doctors and all the nursing and surport staff We are certain my dads life would have ended. ward 3B Thak you all! My dad steadily recovered (plenty of bad and good days), and stayed on ward 3B for 4 weeks Today he transfered into a nursing home and will be home with us within the next month.I can honestly state that at the critical time the unrelenting efforts made suroassed my expectations the only point I can make is these good prople proffessionally calmly and quietly cope with all the problems including sometimes evident staff shortages! thank you from all my dad's family

Dear anonymous - we can appreciate how poor reviews that have been published cause increased anxiety when needing to come into hospital; equally stories such as yours help to show all the incredible good work that is happening. In fact your father's experience is a real life example of why Pilgrim Hospital is in fact the highest performer in the country for fractured neck of femur (hips) and your description is a perfect walkthrough of all the work they have done to achieve this level of care. Please also be assured that a great deal of work has been undertaken in relation to staffing levels and we have recently been in the local news for our successful recruitment of over 80 new nurses for across the Trust. The team will be delighted to read your posting and delighted that your father continues to do well, thank you again for taking the time to tell us about your experience.
