"Patient aftercare"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

Anything else?

My mother recently had a major emergency op. the ITU/HDU care was second to none but on the ward it was a disgrace. Mum left sitting in a soiled pad from 10am to 3pm, having to eat her meal wearing it, she buzzed and this was not responded to or if it was the nurse went away and didnt come back. She was out of bed from 10am to 10pm, in a side room and isolated. The clinicians kept us totally in the dark about what was going on. she had to go to x ray and if I hadnt turned up was left after the procedure sitting in the coldin the corridor waiting for a porter. I brought her back to the ward in the end. She had drainage tubes, 4 in all in one go and had to have the NJ tube aspirated regularly, she was there for 3 weeks before on of the doctors told nurses to change the bag regulary. On one occasion a junior nurses told mum that she had an issue with my mum, she said my mum should put her hand in front of her mouth when she coughs ( she had a PE) , mum told the nurse that it wasnt that type of cough and said the nurse should learn some humility, the nurse said she didnt know the meaning of the word. At one point my mum was stripped down to be washed by nurses and young male nurses. My mum is 82 and ladies of that age donot like to undressed to that degree infront of anyone let alone males.
