What I liked
I was admitted to hospital on 1st July 2008 for an emergency appendectomy. This was the first time I had been admitted to hospital for any length of time other than day care surgery in over 30 years. I was impressed with the care and professionalism shown to me on both the Medical Emergency ward and ward F5. Both are very busy units and the staff were extremely busy but they treated me with care and patience. In view of the fact I was scared and grumpy they still treated me very well.
What could be improved
I would like to see more support staff on these units who could spend a little more time showing patients how to for example get in and out of bed after surgery and just give general help and advice for those of us who have little knowledge of procedures. I did not want to keep bothering the staff as they were so busy especially with more seriously ill patients.
