"My daughter was in treehouse for ..."

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My daughter was in treehouse for appendix removal.

She was really pleased when she realised that there was a separate teenagers ward and that she would not be 'treated like a child'. The nurses were attentive and lovely at all times but assertive when she was being over dramatic! They explained procedures and gave her pain relief regularly, lovely, caring staff.

The playstaff were also very good - they provided entertainment of various kinds throughout my daughter's stay, she could never say she was bored! My daughter recovered well.

What could be improved

Even though the ward was cleaned everyday I noticed a big difference to the amount of cleaning done compared with a hospital in Ashford, Kent which my daughter was admitted to the week earlier. In Kent the cleaners were cleaning every surface, every day and in a small childrens ward they seemed to have 2 full time cleaners on the go constantly. At Stockport I only saw bathrooms, floors cleaned once daily. Beds seemed to be cleaned when they were empty, but only once. Other surfaces seemed to have only been cleaned once in a week period which we were there. I only saw the cleaners briefly, couple of hours at the most, each day. I did not see them change water/cloths as much as Kent cleaners either.
