"Waiting time at ante natal clinic"

About: Barnsley Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

We had our dating scan. The service at this point was fine. When we went into the Antenatal Clinic we found it painfully slow despite the fact that there seemed as many staff as patients. We do not understand why the waiting time was so long as it was not busy. We then had to wait around 1. 5 hours for a prescription for aspirin. After over 3 and a half hours (predominantly sat waiting) our 1st experience of Barnsley Hospital was a bit of an ordeal which is a real shame as it was our 1st meeting with our new baby.

Why is the service in Antenatal Clinics so slow (we found the same with our previous pregnancy at a different hospital)? GP's, dentists, other outpatient clinics in hospitals run in a timely fashion. Antenatal Clinics should be bound by maximum waiting times as other departments are. The current system does not seem driven by the patients needs (nobody wants to be sat indefinitely waiting around in these places while staff swan around).
