"Cataract centre feedback"

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

Anything else?

I would like to thank the Staff Nurse and Mr Hothe doctor for their care and skill during my operation on Saturday. I realise I was not the easiest of patients, finding it difficult to come to terms with the covering of my face but I gratefully appreciate their understanding and, in the case of the doctor, agreement to accept my assurance that I wouldn’t panic and therefore proceeded. The nurse was a stalwart support throughout and the doctor'd measured comments were an immense help, particularly his instruction to keep my right eye shut. This was my first cataract operation and I was not fully aware of what was entailed. I had admitted to being a little claustrophobic during my assessment and was shown the cover that would be used and told that it would be raised off my mouth and nose. I agreed that it should be ok but I was not told of any alternative which might be available. In the event it was much worse for me than anticipated and a sedative probably would have been a good idea. If this is not available at the clinic perhaps this option could nevertheless have been discussed. My care throughout was exemplary and the friendliness and efficiency of the staff second to none. Please ensure that both th doctor andthe nurse receive my thanks and appreciation. Virginia Lloyd
