"Lack of Caring about Family"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Anything else?

My brother died there in June, it was unexpected by me because I had been reassured by a staff member that he was doing much better but I also know that this does happen. My complaint is that it took them approx. 24 hours to notify me of his death, I live in the USA and they had my phone number but did not call me. A Grief Counselor finally called me, thank you, I guess things have changed from when I worked as an RN in the UK.

Thank you, June, for taking the time to give us feedback about your brother’s care at what we’re sure is still a difficult time for you. We are sorry that it took longer than is expected for you to be informed about your brother’s passing. Our staff make every effort to inform a patient’s next of kin as soon as possible following a death, however sometimes they encounter problems in making contact, especially when the next of kin lives overseas. We can only apologise for the delay you experienced, however if you would like us to follow this up further please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on +44 (0)1384 244420 or email pals@dgh.nhs.uk
