I am 72 years old.
I suffer with COPD, emphysema. I was first diagnosed with this disease after being admitted to hospital with severe breathing difficulties. I have been a heavy smoker most of my life, 30 to 40 a day.
I was in hospital for 2 weeks. It is a very frightening experience not being able to breathe. I have been having regular follow up appointments for breathing tests. I am on various inhalers, Salbutamol, Seretide, Atrovent. Some are beneficial that seem to work for me.
I have been discharged from respiratory medicine at the hospital, and referred to community COPD team at Dewsbury health centre. My first appointment was in April. I have attended the clinic for treatment and care, which in my opinion has been outstanding.
I was treated with respect and dignity, with a warm and friendly welcome. I was listened to and involved in my treatment and care. At my last appointment with the consultant, I was prescribed the use of a nebulizer at home, that should improve my breathing.
I will continue to attend the clinic for any future appointments, knowing that I will get the best care, and improvement in my breathing.
I have been referred for inclusion in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme. I have attended one of these programmes before and found it to be most beneficial.
"Treatment has been outstanding"
