"Payments to Pharmacy"

About: Good Hope Hospital

(as a relative),

We attended Good Hope Hospital for an outpatients clinic and were provided with a prescription which we were not expecting. When we arrived at pharmacy we were told they only accept cash. We did not have sufficient cash to cover the cost of the prescription and they do not accept debit/credit cards. The cash point at the hospital charges £1. 65 for a withdrawal which is one of the most expensive we've ever seen. We cannot take the prescription to another pharmacy and so to avoid a return journey we took cash out of the machine to collect the drugs. The cost of prescriptions is now significant and for multiple items could be costly. Most people now don't carry lots of cash with them as every shop now has a PDQ machine. It's already expensive to visit the hospital with parking charges and snacks and drinks costing a premium. An option to pay by debit/credit card should be made available.

Dear Buckbags

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your concerns regarding your experience at Good hope Hospital. I have asked the Clinical Director and General Manager for Pharmacy to look into your suggestion of having credit/debit card payment when paying for prescriptions.

Regarding being charged using the cash point machine in the hospital grounds, it is not the trust who sets the charges of withdrawal of cash from the machine, they are owned by the Bank.

If you would like to discuss your concerns in more detail please call me on 0121 424 0808.

I wish you a speedy recovery

Kind regards

Iona
