"LCH not impressed with my treatment plan"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

This started about on Monday I started to get a pain in my left shoulder which now covers the whole of the arm as well. I scream out with pain it is that bad. I have lost over 80% movement. So in the early hours of Tuesday morning. I decided to go to A&E. The service their was second to none. I was impressed for once. I saw a nurse then a doctor and I had a x-ray done. I then saw the doctor who said I have to show you something. So I follows him and he showed me my x-ray. I was then told that I have a large calcium deposit in my shoulder which is scraping against my shoulder ball socket. Hence the pain. This kind doctor also told me that I need to have it in a sling and he gave me a prescription for some anti inflammatory medication which I have to watch as they interfere with my high blood pressure. Which means I cannot use them for a long time. He told me that I need to see a orthopedic surgeon to discuss the best course of treatment. He said don't get a biopsy done with laser treatment as it works for 30% of people. I was then given an appointment to attend Clinic 11 on a Thursday morning.

So today I turned up with my wife for support. I went to the receptionist and showed her my appointment card. She then pointed and said use the machine to book yourself in. I found her to be very rude and urgently needing a lesson in manners and respect. So I queued up again and booked myself in. We both then went to sit down and waited and waited and waited finally got my name called out. Went in to see a surgeon. So he told me he was one. I found that very hard to believe. He Examined my hand and shoulder. Told me what I already knew. He then said that I was going to be discharged and have physio therapy done. Told me I have to rest my arm take it out of the sling. I had done at A&E.

Hello is anyone their. Rest my arm and get physio done. Yep that makes perfect sense to me. Don't use the sling it will cease up rest the arm. That person needs a reality check done and fast. I complained to a nurse about that. She rushed back to him like something out the Benny hill show. Again I got told the same old. The best part was that he said he would consider if that failed to operate on the calcium lump if the physio failed!

My big dilema is the following

1 Yes I'm not stupid I know that I have inflammation problem and that it needs to be sorted

2 I have this physio therapy done which would be having the calcium lump knocking against the shoulder ball socket chipping away at it doing no end of damage and putting me in a all sorts of pain for nothing.

3 Over 3 months of not sleeping and crying every night in pain whilst I have 2-3 months of physio (Not gonna Happen)

4 Risking my life by taking this anti imflamatory medication/pain relief which conteracts my blood pressure tablets which means my chances of having a stroke will be very good and The Hospital saves itself a operation

5 This calcium lump is a like a bullet fragment lodged in my shoulder. Physio first then opperate. ? Thought it was other way around you opperate first then have physio

6 I had to double the doze of medication for it to work now Iv'e run out

7 I asked for more pain relief/Anti imflamtory meds got nothing

8 The slightest jolt hurts me.

9 I hate being lied too

10 What hurts the most is my wife and do are suffering withe me being up all night crying out in pain and keeping them awake

11 The doctor/surgeon kept telling me how ive been heavy lifting when I have not

I want this lump removed out my body NOW. Not Maybe Not next year. Not next decade. Not next century. I want to be treated. A german prisoner during WW2 would get better treatment than what I have recieved or should I say lack of it

Dear Mr. Massive

I have spoken to the sister in outpatients and to the deputy director who would like you to contact her directly if possible at: linda.higginbottom@ulh.nhs.uk so she can look into your experience in more detail and help to get things sorted for you.

We are really sorry; you have clearly had a dreadful time but we would like to turn that around for you if at all possible; please do get in touch.
