About: West Cumberland Hospital

Anything else?

I was shocked while visiting a good friend, first thing to greet me was the smell of stale air and bodys, instead of clean wards smelling of disinfectant that we used to smell on entering a hospital, the ward looked like a bomb had hit it.then to find my friend with phlem in his mouth and dried blood around his lips, blood stained dressing on his arm,the butterfly intravienus on his hand coming loose and dropped off when he moved because it had never been looked at or replaced since admission 8days previous, all of these things just basic care, instead of neglect,i felt so sorry for him and his wife .

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to let us know about your experiences of West Cumberland Hospital when you visited your friend. We are sorry that you felt that the ward was cluttered and rather stuffy. We have since carried out a rolling programme of deep cleaning in our ward areas as part of our overall improvement plans. We have also introduced intentional rounding on all wards where a member of staff regularly carries out a ward round to ensure patients' needs are being met and this is not helping to improve our patient experience. There is always a senior nurse on duty on each ward who would be happy to address any concerns from families, carers and friends, so please do feel that you can raise any issues with them directly.
