About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

Anything else?

Before going to Moorfields A&E, I read up on the reviews on this site, and found them extremely useful to set my expectations before arrival. The review comments here have been very helpful to me, so I hope that my comments here will help inform future patients, and feedback to the staff at Moorfields as well. I had originally seen my GP after I had scratched my eye, and had a lot of discomfort and discharge. My GP gave me some antibiotic drops and sent me home saying he did not have the right equipment to see if there was any damage to my corneas. This worried me, so the following day I went to Moorfields for peace of mind. 9:25am – arrival at Moorfields, which is a short walk away from Old Street tube station and very easy to locate. As soon as I walked in, I was seen by the triage nurse who took my details and a brief description of my problem. 9:27am – barely time to sit down in the waiting area beside the triage desks. I was taken to another room to have my vision checked, by reading letters on a chart. I was then sent back to the waiting area. 9:43am – called by the admin clerks to the desks in the waiting area, they took some further details from me, and I was sat back down in the waiting area . 9:46am – called in to sit inside a second waiting area to await the eye doctor examination. 10:20am – I was called in to see the eye doctor. They did a lot of detailed checks, including checking the pressure, looking under the eyelids, colour dyes to look for scratches etc. 10:39am – Eye doctor checks complete – off to the pharmacy to pick up the necessary medications. In summary – my experience at Moorfields A&E has been nothing short of fantastic. My waiting time was short (just over one hour from arrival to departure), but appreciate that this is dependent on the day/time you arrive. A very efficient and well run service. Thank you.
