"Seemless care for older people in West Lothian"

About: St John's Hospital / General Medicine

(as a relative),

My mother-in-law is 89 and has pretty advanced Parkinsons and Osteoporosis, so her movement is really compromised and she needs help at home with 4 personal care team visits a day.

She recently spent a week in Ward 9 at St John's, Livingston, having woken one morning and found herself unable to stand-up at all (even with the help of her trusty walking frame).

During her hospital stay she recieved physiotherapy aimed at getting her back on her feet and treatment for an infection. She has told the family that she felt safe and very well cared for by the excellent and very kind nurses on Ward 9 and that contrary to popular belief - the "grub and the tea was great".

Aside from this, we as a family were most impressed at the efficient discharge management that enabled our Mum to get back to her own home and immediately have her personal care package back in place and operating efficiently.

Our thanks and appreciation go to the NHS and social care teams involved in West Lothian.

Thank you very much indeed for taking time out to contact us with your comments, which are appreciated by everybody at NHS Lothian.

We strive to put the needs of patients at the very heart of what we do and I am glad to see that has been the experience of your mother-in-law.

I have passed your comments to the teams involved in her care so that they can see what you have written.

Thank you again for contacting Patient Opinion with your comments.
