"A & E asthma attack"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

I had my first serious asthma attack at midnight on a saturday night. I called 999 and ambulance and support car were there within 10 minutes, all three paramedics were extremely reassuring with me in a very panicked state. Especially the lady in the back who spoke to my wife on the phone. I was taken to the A & E at the MRI where i was dealt with immediately first to reduce my immediate attack and then to try to find out what happened (I had not previously been diagnosed with asthma). I saw a couple of excellent nurses, one of whom kept an eye on me all night. I also saw the doctor a couple of times and had a chest x-ray. There were some quite long gaps between different bits of treatment but I think the main thing I needed was 'nebs' and oxygen, which they left me with and which worked a treat. With it being a saturday night I overheard some of the more interesting patients; I must say the staff have the patience of saints, amazing to hear! Really very impressed from start to finish. I was absolutely terrified and you fixed me! Thank-you
