Admitted for 5 days eeg & video telemetry observation on the neurosurgery ward as start of pre assessment for possible brain surgery. Upon arrival I was shown to the room then left for 45 minutes. When a nurse finally came in she took minimal details & had my friend not queried other important medical history needed I do not feel confident this information would have been taken. Once the monitoring equipment had been fitted to me I was then left again for 4 hours with no idea what the plan for the 5 days was, another nurse arrived to give me an injection of which I had no idea I was to have & so this carried on until I discharged myself a day early due to being in a complete state of upset at just being put in the room & left virtually ignored by ward nurses with no communication to me. As I have always had such a great level of care from all staff within the Wessex Neuro Centre the complete lack of the same at any level on this ward was a shock & has not given me any confidence in the fact that I know I have to return to fully complete the monitoring process. It is a worrying enough time when faced with the possibility of brain surgery, patients should not feel as though they have been dumped in a room & forgotten about when admitted for pre surgery assessments.
