I was asking for an epidural, and to be made sure I was given one many times, to all midwives on staff at the time. I was screaming in pain and crying and so were many other women on the ward where people were being induced. I never got the epidural, and was discovered to be at 9cm, and my waters had broken hours after being in pain. Other women had the same problem. I don't feel it was right we weren't told what was really going on, if the place was understaffed, or why we couldn't have an epidural to take away the pain. Also, my labour partners were told to go home whilst i was in labour, as visiting hours had ended, I thought that was very traumatic as I felt alone, and wasn't prepared for this, left in pain and just on paracetamol. Please listen to women who need their labour partners with them or explain why they aren't getting pain relief.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope when your labour was being induced. We are sorry that you were unable to receive an epidural for pain relief. We have recently changed our processes to help women be transferred to the delivery unit in a more timely manner and your concerns have also been raised directly with the staff involved so that they can improve the support they give to women to ensure that others have an improved experience. We have also highlighted to our staff that it is not appropriate for partners to be asked to leave at the end of visiting if their partner is in labour and they would only be advised to leave if labour is not established and they would prefer to rest before returning to support their partner at a later time.
