Anything else?
My sister was taken in on Bank holiday Friday with what we now know as a recurrence of a blocked bowel, she was in great pain and was looked after by everyone on King George V ward with care and concern. The duty Consultant for the weekend tried to get beds nearer to home in Surrey but since it was the bank holiday this was impossible. It soon became clear that it was impossible to move her and the best course of action was to wait until the Consultant who specialises in bowel surgery came in on Monday lunchtime. By the time this happened it was clear that my sister needed urgent surgery and this surgery was complicated further in that it had been done 12 weeks previously and also a huge mesh had been inserted into her stomach at that time. The competency of everyone involved was second to none and the nursing care was exemplary both before the operation,, in intensive care and back on the ward. Absolutely everyone without exception was kind caring and responsive to me, I was very worried and concerned for my sister and they did not make me feel a nuisance. Without complaint everyone answered my questions and responded extremely well to all requests, this included the Intensive care staff and consultants. Her husband telephoned from their home in Surrey many times and was always communicated with in the most sympathetic and patient manner. The total care my sister received was far superior to other hospitals I have witnessed in the last few years and something people of this area should take note of and appreciate. The organisation to have her transferred back to Surrey was also exceptional. So, exemplary and exceptional are the only words to describe this hospital and its staff.
"Nothing but huge praise for North Devon District..."
