About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The parking at the hospital is the best I have seen by far at any hospital. I live in Burnley and you could not get a spot all day even when it wasn't visiting time.

What could be improved

Visitors and patients smoke outside the hospital entrance and I think it would be a good idea to put up a designated smoking area. You say that you get staff to challenge people who smoke but they don't do it. You will never be able to stop people smoking so why not just put an area in where people can smoke. It will help two fold, by making people who don't smoke feel more comfortable and also make the place look tidy.

Also the Cafe is always closed or closing early at night. This is not a major problem but when visitors want a drink you can't get one because when it is closed there are no machines.

The staff at the hospital are generally ok but on a few occasions I have witnessed them ignoring a buzzer. I could understand if they were busy but when I have seen this they are just standing around chatting to fellow collegues and having a laugh. I think it would be wise to remind them that they are there to work and not socialise.

The Trust will consider your view of a designated smoking area, and a group will look into the implications for patients, visitors and staff.

You request for drinking facilities has been passed on to the relevant people and will look into installing a vending machine to provide drinks.

thank you
