I had a minor operation on my foot, after many years of increasing discomfort - it felt like I was walking with a crease in my sock that wasn't there, which worsened to feeling like I was walking on a permanent pebble on the ball of my foot. I could only wear Crocs clogs and walk for 15 minutes before the discomfort burned. Whilst I won't gainsay the long term, I cannot praise enough the ACAD staff who looked after me today. One of the many stars was a male nurse with boundless patience and sensitivity. Next along was the registrar for the multi talented head of the surgical team who operated on me. My surgeon was clear in pre-op about how things might go for me long term, and in the next 6 weeks of immediate recovery, whilst the Consultant added a confidence building prognosis. The anaesthetic team was lead by a sharp sensitive man whose name I sadly didn't get and another the charming member if staff who confirmed my details and assisted. Then in post-op were the nursing sister and the male nurse. Like the anaethetist before them, who even came to see how I was doing and bid me farewell, these two were calm and prompt and assiduous in their care. One wheeled me all the way to the exit. You may think I've gone on too long, but these people deserve more than these words of praise and recognition as my way of saying Thank You. I will pass a copy of this post to their managers. No public health system run on a national basis is going to be perfect, but once in it, this experience worked well. A special thank you also to a particular member of staff in pre-assessment and the scheduler. Thank you all.
