My father was in this hospital, he was very ill, first he was put in AAU , until a bed came free after only been discharged the week before. He was then moved to another ward, although some nursing staff did their best and prob overworked, communication on his condition was non existence. Each day we went to see him, no improvement. He was very ill, one day left sitting in the blazing sun, he wanted to come home, he was not eating much or drinking much and unable to move unaided due to Edema. Eventually we had to beg to see a doctor /consultant only to be told to say our good bye's with other visitors in the ward, yet he was still able to talk and aware what was going on. The following day he was moved to a hospice and passed away less than a week later. We were never consulted on his treatment, or his condition during his time in Northwick Park or given the results of tests which were done while he was in this hospital. only given a discharge note with 'days' to live. The whole NHS experience with him was awful, from home visits, to bloods being lost, to his final days. An active man who only became inactive once his treatment started (six weeks after) and then it seemed all NHS hospitals involved in his care did not want to know. I understand his condition was palliative, he became very ill within six weeks, prior to this active, gardening, shopping. Yes he became old very quickly but deserved dignity and respect, which he finally got in the hospice. Thank you to the ambulance service and hospice who did a brilliant job.
