"North Tyneside East Community Mental Health Team"

About: Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter has been a service user of North Tyneside East Community Mental Health Team (formally Whitley Bay CMHT) for a number of years.

I feel the care and support she has received has been extremely haphazard and delivered in a very vague ill advised manner.

She has received absolutely no actual treatment from this service in all those years, even though this was promised on numerous occasions. In my view and experience their communication skills are non-existent and staff attitudes leave a lot to be desired.

I have spoken with North Tyneside East CMHT on one occasion, I could see no point in speaking with them again, apart from, in my opinion, accusing my daughter of being a liar, I was offered no assurances of possible recovery one day for my daughter (something I would have expected).

They can't seem to make their mind up on my daughters diagnosis, things they have written about my daughter in her notes have caused her problems too.

I think change here is definitely needed!

Thank you for your comments relating to the service provided to your daughter by North Tyneside East Community Mental Health Team. I can assure you I will look into the issues you have raised particularly with regard to the comment you have made in relation to staff attitudes in the team leaving a lot to be desired and that your daughter has been accused of being a liar. I can assure you we will take the appropriate action to address any evidence we find of this being the case and I would be grateful if you could provide me with any further information which would help us with this by contacting Tony Quinn, Service Manager on 0191 2205716.

I am also concerned that you feel the care and support your daughter has been offered has been haphazard and that you do not feel she has received any treatment during the time she has been involved with the team. I would like to have the opportunity to discuss this further to ensure your daughter is receiving the treatment she requires and again I would be grateful if you or your daughter could contact me on the above number so I can ensure this is the case.

I would like to apologise that your experience of the North Tyneside East Community Mental Health Team has been such a negative experience, however I would like to reassure you that the team have also received a number of comments complimenting and thanking members of the team for the care and support they have offered. This does not excuse any situations where people have not received a good service and as it is our aim to ensure we provide consistently high quality services I can assure you I will look into the matters you have raised in order to address any issues that are preventing us from being able to do this.

Tony Quinn

Service Manager
