"Questionnaire not relevant to Urgent Care"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Anything else?

Most of the questionnaires from those in urgent care on the night I was there ended up on the floor being swept up and discarded by the cleaner who had to ask patients to lift their feet in order for her to remove them. The questionnaire was handed to me at the desk on arrival with no explanation and when I did look at it the questions were largely inappropriate to my situation or experience so I didn't complete it. I would suggest making the questions more relevant to the department and perhaps making it available electronically in the department so that it can be completed whilst patients are 'in the experience' rather than reflecting on it days later. A & E or Urgent Care needs an urgent review - it was full of people who were not patients (other family members) so appeared to be very busy when in reality there were just a handful of patients most of whom (including myself) didn't need to be there (that became clear after my initial tests) but who were kept there for the hospitals purposes of signing them off after seeing a doctor who wasn't available to do that job for many hours - over 9 hours in my case. The experience of visiting A&E / Urgent care has put me off ever wanting to go there again (and this was my first ever visit). The staff were fine when I eventually saw them but the waiting was interminable and made me feel more unwell than I actually was. I wasn't aware that the Dept was both A&E and Urgent Care and only worked that out towards the end of my 9 hour wait.
