Last Tuesday, we had to weigh up whether to go to hospital or the GP surgery, my husband was very unwell with an eye problem. Once booked into a fairly relaxed casualty, some time down the line, we were seen by a very nice doctor who straight away realized that he had a bacterial infection and corneal ulcer. The wait was lengthy but the advice and appointment very good. Part two was admission into Eye Casualty to have the diagnosis confirmed and for treatment to be started, again an excellent member of staff with great advice and a clear treatment plan to follow at home. He has since been back and the infection has cleared rapidly plus, the cornea mending itself. My only criticism is that waiting times are very very long, especially in Eye Casualty, and the amount of patients that the two doctors had to deal with was quite extraordinary, it is clear that the trust needs to employ more medical staff, but despite this we felt very lucky to have good NHS treatment. Well done Casualty and well done Eyes. My husband was getting more and more poorly as we waited...so to be seen by two people who knew what they were doing with such accuracy was a real relief! Thanks guys.
