"Hopefully never Again"

About: Broomfield Hospital

Anything else?

Went to outpatients today for an appointment I have waited 3-4 months for. My appointment letter told me my appointment would be in zone A. Not being able to walk very well I arrived at approximately 1.10 for a 2.30 appointment. I arrived early with a view to finding out where the clinic was and to slowly, due to my disabilities, walk to the waiting area outside the correct clinic. Silly me, for thinking things could be so straight forward. Upon arrival I found the main entrance doors closed. there was no sign informing me they were out of order or how to gain entry. Eventually after peering through the doors I saw people entering from the left. This entailed me with an extra 30 metres plus walk which took me a full 15 minutes. Upon registering I was informed that 'no-one knew where my clinic would be held that day, but to wait by the sign boards for my name to come up'. I tried to explain my predicament and my reasons for arriving early but was stone walled. At the bottom of this page you are requested to state which department you visited. I didnt get to visit any department apart from outpatients, of course there is no option for that, so I chose one at random, otherwise I could not enter this statement. At 2.15 approximately I was told that my appointment was in zone C, which entailed too much walking for me and eventually after failing to gain no assistance whatever despite trying, I was pretty much threatened out of the hospital by the tough guy security. Upon arriving home and calling the hospital I eventuall made contact with a manager who informed me that the appointments for my particular clinic are always held in zone c on a wednesday. This begs two questions. 1. Why wasnt I informed as such in the appointment letter? 2. Why could the desk staff at which I booked in have told me, instead of making me wait seemingly miles away?. This was a missed appointment due to the hospital staff's inability to communicate with patients and each other. Deplorable.

Thank you for post regarding the experience you had whilst using our services. Can I firstly apologise for what went wrong. I shall contact the Estates Team to ensure signage is erected when doors are out of order. I would appreciate you emailing me your contact details so I can find out why the appointment letter was incorrect and the events with our member of the security team. jonathan.wright@meht.nhs.uk I look forward to speaking with you soon.
