"maternity assessment centre review"

About: Leicester General Hospital

Anything else?

I found that the midwifes here to be rude and careless. Not what i expected from a maternity unit. I came in for a check up after i had a pregnancy related concern. I was kept waiting for hours on end, with no communication of why i was kept waiting and what was going on. No refreshments on ward considering we were there for 5 hours plus for what ended up being a quick test. Nurses talked loudly about other patients, we heard them gossiping quite loudly and even heard names and what patients were in for (confidentiality issues?). I thing the midwifes on this ward definitely need re-training in there job. People come to the assessment centre because they have a serious concern, but when i rang the centre prior to coming in, the nurse that took the phonecall did not seem to take my concern seriously at all. I insisted that i should come in after ringing NHS direct and being advised that i should go in. (nhs conflicting advice). I am quite nervous for when i go in for actual birth. I would consider going private if i could find a private hospital with a maternity unit close to my home. Also whilst i was waiting in the waiting room, a lady asked discretely for some help (she was in some discomfort and said herself that she felt embarrassed, the midwifes response was not discreet at all, in fact she shouted out the discussion between them in from of others in the waiting room.
