About: Salford Royal

Anything else?

I am 65 years old and a sufferer of copd, over the past few weeks I developed problems of a bad chest then breathlessness my gp had given me a preventer inhaler these severe symptoms were new to me as they worsened I struggled for breath more and more it was weekend and a bank holiday I one night got a taxi and went to hope hospital breathless lots of mucas I appealed to a doctor for nebuliser help to breathe he said it was only for patients who had infection or were admitted it was all very cold matter of fact unsympathetic. my son a month earlier and hayfever sufferer was treated with nebuliser and a friends daughter assisted at another hospital with her breathing it was as if a certain category had been excluded by age illness or something. two nights later again unbearable breathing problems I rang 111 great service in only a few minutes a ambulance came they administered oxygen and it was they who requested to take me to hospital, I commented to a nurse how grateful I was to 111 she said oh they are supposed to stop you coming but they instead bring you here I had been fighting for my breath and didn't qualify as medical need. the doctor advised me to go to my gp(it was a bank holiday) it felt as if I was profiled not to receive any medical attention or anything that may incurr any costs its frightening more than frightening imajining I may be even more desperate for their care one day I am considering how I might ensure there is no danger of ever going to hope hospital I was sick desperate and human their policies said I was none of those things I was nothing

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry to read that you are dissatisfied with your recent visit to our Emergency Department. I understand that you have since raised this with our PALS team who are laising with the senior nursing staff for the department and will respond to you accordingly.
