About: The Great Western Hospital

Anything else?

This hospital is totally disorganised. The nursing staff, mostly foreign bank staff, have little or no leadership. Filth and bodily products lay around for days. Simple requests for a urine container could take up to 2hrs to arrive. A full bottle of urine was spilt on my table and a tissue dropped onto the spillage, this was then taken away, another nurse then came along with a load of syringes and they just dropped them all on to the table spreading them out and picking up the one she wanted. Reporting it to anyone isn't worth the effort, even though the new "matron" system is supposed to be in place to deal with this. They are as defensive as a samurai, they go into complete denial and say they walk the areas referred to every day. When my partner suddenly walked in and confirmed what I had just said, I was told, "this shouldn't have happened" dammed right. When I insisted we walk around the block of the ward, they picked up five blood sacked products several syringe caps and was shown several stains on the floor. I told them in 2 days the floor had never been cleaned. In the days I was in this place I never ever saw one person doctor or nurse use a hand jell when going to any patient. "nice" hope they washed their hands after the toilet, do they even know why they have to. Here as promised is how I rate the services and staff at your filthy disgusting hospital. You should be put into administration and those responsible should be taken to court and charged with reckless endangerment of life. You have got away for far too long, by issuing your own care quality certificates, you should be investigated as a matter of urgency.

Thank you for your comments. I was very concerned to read about your experiences, both from a customer service and a clinical point of view. I’d like to offer my personal assurances that we do take issues such as these extremely seriously. I’ve also shared your comments with the Chief Nurse and our team of Matrons at the Great Western Hospital, who were equally concerned. We’d like to be able to investigate these issues further, unfortunately because NHS Choices is anonymous, we don’t have details of the ward or any of the staff you may have spoken to already. We would be very grateful if you could contact our Customer Service Team on 01793 604031, or email pals.team@gwh.nhs.uk and provide some more information, particularly about the ward(s) where these experiences happened and when you were with us. This additional information will allow us to carry out an investigation into the concerns you’ve raised. Yours sincerely Rob Mauler Head of Customer Service
