"Gynaecology outpatient clinic answered all my..."

About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent

Anything else?

I recently attended Gynae outpatients with a list of worries and queries. Although the clinic was running a little late (I think most people accept that at least on patient earlier on may have needed more time and therefore exoect a delay in a busy clinic?) I had prepared for this, brining along a bottle of water, reading material and not having anything else booked in for the next few hours. I cound the nursing staff helpful, friendly and courteous adn the consultant reassuring, non-judgemental and very interested in me as an individual. I had prepared a list of questions that had occured to me during the few weeks beforehand and the consultant answered most of them before I asked them! I asked for time just to check we had covered everything on my list and came out with a clear plan of action for the next few months of treatment prior to surgery. Having a plan makes evertthing seem less daunting as you can predict when things might happed and plan your life around them, I am no longer dreading my next appointment as I already know what is likely to happen and if that changes we can take a new plan from there. The consultant was excellent and completely reassured me with this expertise and relaxed manner. I am proud of the NHS and wanted to shake some of the whingers in the waiting room and ask them if they would prefer not to wait an extra hour, to go private and pay - no, thought not!
