"In November 2006 I was a patient ..."

About: Leeds General Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

In November 2006 I was a patient on ward 24 at the LGI for two weeks. This ward deals with neurosurgery patients.

The standard of nursing was excellent: they were professionally competent, caring and hard-working.

Standards of cleanliness were good. As always there was probably room for improvement but I was never concerned.

The food was good so long as intelligent choices were made about what food to pick. Some food just isn't suited to being kept warm whilst it is delivered to the wards. I found the sandwiches and salads to be excellent - easily on a par with any posh cafe. Hot puddings were also very good.

What could be improved

Communication between doctors and nursing staff could be improved.

The morning ward round appeared rushed and was something that was 'done' to patients rather than involving them.
