"Taxi driver provided was extremely erratic"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Patient transport service (PTS)

(as a relative),

My mother was due to be taken to hospital by ambulance. However, we waited a long time and the ambulance didn’t arrive, so we were provided with a taxi instead.

The taxi driver was extremely erratic. He was driving 60mph and using his phone whilst driving. I told him to slow down, but I’m really concerned if my mother, who is elderly, was in the car on her own it would have been a very traumatic time.

I wanted to share this as I don’t want any elderly passengers to go through the same experience.

On the way back we had an ambulance and the chap was lovely.

Dear Dutch184

Thank you for taking the time to share you and your mother's experience.

I am very sorry to hear that your journey to hospital gave you cause for concern. We would like to be able to investigate what may have happend to your mothers booking, however, we will require a liitle more information from you. If you could please call our Patient Experience team on 01392 261585, they will be happy to look into your concerns.

I am glad that your return journey by ambulance met your expectations. It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide an excellent service to our patients. I will pass your kind words to our Patient Transport managers who, I am sure, will appreciate your comments.

Thank you for your feedback.
