"I needed to have a breast lump ..."

About: Castle Hill Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I needed to have a breast lump investigated, which was very worrying. The hospital provided me with really good information leaflets about my outpatient appointment and when I arrived the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The whole unit was very clean and brightly furnished and all of the staff seemed to really care about how I might be feeling. A nurse who came to collect me to go for a scan introduced herslef by first name and escorted me around various rooms and tests. The consultant was very reasuring and the whole experience was made so much easier by the kind and caring attitude of the staff and the pleasant environment.

What could be improved

While waiting for my tests I was asked to wear a gown which gaped quite alot. Because of the gaping gowns my husband and I were seperated into different waiting areas whilst women who had brought a female friend with them were not. I can see that this is a privacy issue but could they not just get better gowns so that both sexes could stay together as the wait was several hours.
