"So much has improved"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

I had the misfortune to break my right wrist a month ago. Unlucky me, because six years ago I broke my left wrist. On both occasions I ended up at A&E, then the fracture clinic and finally having to be admitted into the Lister for operations. The treatment I had for both wrists was excellent but this time the management of the whole event was so much better than before. Then I wrote a letter to the Chief Exec, complaining of the waiting times, the lack of communication and consultation between the staff and myself and the lack of cleanliness in the hospital. This time I can't fault the Lister. I was treated with respect at all times and even when waiting times were long, there were apologies and I was always kept informed of the valid reasons for the problem. The hospital is much cleaner and is now well managed so that the staff do not seem so stressed by unrealistic targets or work loads. Admission and appointment procedures are now dealt with speedily and helpfully - and what is more, the healing after this operation has been aided by a much shorter time in plaster. Thank you so much to all the doctors, nurses, ancillary staff and managers. Well done Lister.

Response from Lister Hospital

We've worked hard over last five to 10 years to improve every aspect of our hospitals' collective performance - operational, clinical and financial. Getting the management of service right is a very important part of providing high quality services that leave patients feeling they've had a good experience. We know that there is more to be done, but it seems like your account of the care you received at the Lister recently shows that we're on the right track! And our staff in the A&E and fracture clinics will also take pleasure from ready feedback to boot. Many thanks again for taking the time and trouble to post your comments and may we wish you a continued speedy and full recovery!
