Having seen all the negative media comments on the NHS I was not expecting the speed and efficiency with which the service operated. I was seen by the consultant within a week of referral by the GP and was treated with the utmost courtesy from the reception staff, nursing sister and the trainee GP was very caring as well as efficient and the consultant. Decisions taken, treatment started. What more could I ask for? I notice though that the average referral time is just a week and wonder how many people have been put off going to the GP to start the process going because the media fuelled expectation is for months long waiting times. Time for a press release?
