"A&E very good, wards pretty poor"

About: Charing Cross Hospital

Anything else?

I was admitted to A&E with a referral from my doctor, was seen very quickly and efficiently. The staff were great and kept me informed. Once I was referred for more tests I was moved up to a ward, the staff here were too busy to tell me what was happening and why they were doing particular tests. At the end of the day I was transferred to a mixed ward from the room I was in on my own, and then promptly ignored for several hours, even as I asked repeatedly for painkillers or to speak to a doctor. I eventually discharged myself against their advice, as I felt I would be better looked after at home and would actually be able to get some painkillers. I don't remember which ward it was now, but I would not recommend this hospital based on my experience.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust welcomes your feedback following your attendance at A & E at Charing Cross last year. Thank you for your appreciation for our A & E staff. We are sorry to hear that you did not have the same positive experience on the ward and we apologise. Your comments have been passed to the relevant teams. We always encourage patients to raise any concerns they might have as soon as possible by asking to speak to one of our matrons, whose role it is to ensure that we are providing the highest standards of care and treatment. Alternatively you can ask to be put in touch with our patient advice & liaison service ( PALS).
