Anything else?
Firstly I had a very good experience with the nursing staff who I found supportive and clear at every step of the mornings procedures. However the consultant was off hand, dismissive and very brusk in his manner. I commented to my named nurse that the consultant seemed very angry with me for some reason and she assured me that 'Don't worry he's like that with everyone' Specifically my consultant did not; 1. Look me in the eye during our brief chat. 2. Introduce himself as he entered the room and address me by name, this I consider to be basic good manners. 3. Smile. 4. Ask me if I had any questions once he had finished talking at me. 5. Say goodbye, look me in the eye or smile reassuringly as he left the room. At no point did I feel anything other than a inconvenience to this mans morning. And I definitely did not feel as if he cared about my welfare as an individual distinct from others he was seeing. Although his behaviour was upsetting it is the follow up letter I received today that has prompted me to look on the website to investigate making a full complaint. This I intend to do in writing. The letter simply confirms an overall arrogence the doctor seems to have towards patients. The letter is full of mistakes and twice he states he 'presumes' something- had I been questioned correctly the information would have been easily elicited from me because any 'presumption' is likely to be wrong. I will be taking this further. Department: Colorectal, floor 3, main block
