"Hip replacement surgery"

About: St Edmunds Hospital

Anything else?

I had hip replacement surgery at this hospital in October 2012, not as a private patient but as an NHS patients referred by what is called an 'ECR'. The NHS could not offer me a service within there 18 week framework and my need for hip replacement was urgent. The staff were kind but did not listen and the surgeon involved dismissed my post operative excruciating pain for all of the 5 days that I was an in patient. I was left in severe pain and distress for nearly 7 months until my GP and our own resilience got me to the Royal National orthopaedic Hospital in London where a consultant Peripeheral Nerve Specialist put right all numerous mistakes made by the surgeon at the BMI. He assured me the surgery was necessary as a direct result of the hip replacement surgery at this hospital. I had suffered nerve compression and a haemorrhage post operatively. The service was superficial with everyone saying 'all will be well just give it time'. I would not return to this surgeon or this hospital. I asked for an investigation into what had happened and almost 1 year on have not heard anything. They say they are investigating but the surgeon is generally uncooperative.
