I was very concerned about a possible DVT and had presented at my local walk in minor injuries clinic who had just told me to take ibuprofen and see my doctor - which I did, a week later and then a week later again saw another doctor at my practice.
By this stage - having had symptoms for a month, my doctor suggested we should try and eliminate various medical conditions - DVT being the first as this was the most medically urgent.
She referred me to the Rapid Assessment Unit at Caterham Dene hospital at 08: 30 in the morning. I had a phone call at 10am and my appointment was at 2pm - this is on the NHS (where my past experience has not been quite so immediate! ! ).
I walked into the hospital at 2pm and was seen within seconds. The level of care was fantastic. The nurse was very caring, the radiologist very efficient and the doctor very reassuring. The bloods were run and results obtained within a few minutes - and I was out.
Actually I am none the wiser about my condition, but the DVT medical emergency has been very effectively and very rapidly ruled out.
