"The nurse told me she would get me better... and she did"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I went to my doctors for my yearly check up and he found out I was very anemic, so he referred me to the Rotherham General Hospital for tests. In February, 2011, I went in and they gave me two pints of blood before Mr Garner, the surgeon, could operate. They found a very large tumour in my tummy.

I had the operation in early March by keyhole as I said it wouldn't be as sore for me, but something went wrong and I was rushed in a day or after. I was getting very poorly, so they operated again, cutting me open down my tummy, but I was critically ill, on a life support machine, then I went to high dependency.

I can't remember much about it, but everywhere I was all the staff were excellent. Then I spent a few weeks on wards B4 and B5 at Rotherham. They did wonders for me, I can't thank them all enough, I can't find a fault of any kind. Kath, the main nurse in charge was wonderful. So was a male nurse called David.

A nurse on the H. D really got me to come round. I used to say to her "look, go away. Spend your time with the others who are going to live, " and she said "I am going to get you better, I will. " And she did. Her name I do remember was Terry.

So here I am, two and a half years since I am feeling fine and finished up with a stoma bag but I am used to it now.

The treatment I had was wonderful. Rotherham hospital is fit for our queen, I am sorry I've got carried away with my report but you can throw it in the bin if you like and not read it.

Also, the after care is wonderful, better than our parents got.
