About: King's Mill Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I am a 50 year old woman who has just undergone a hip resurfacing operation. I must say every aspect of the medical care I received was second to none throughout my 3 day stay. My care is being followed up at home with the District Nurses attending me most days to check on my dressing and wellbeing, and this in itself is an excellent service which enables valuable beds to be freed up early. All the staff were courteous, friendly and extremely caring.

My sincere thanks are sent to all staff on Ward 11, my consultant and the operating team. Even though I am on crutches I feel the quality of my life is a million times better - THANK YOU.

What could be improved

My one and only complaint regarding my stay on Ward 11 was the interminable heat. For patients and staff alike, it was a nightmare. If you can imagine going through a major operation and not being able to move off one's back, to be subjected to temperatures more suitable to a sauna was absolute torture. It made me feel constantly queasy and I self administered the morphine in order to be able sleep and get through the long nights. I understand that controlling heating through such a huge building is extremely difficult, but if something could be done it should and fast. There is huge emphasis on making sure that MRSA does not find its way onto the Ward but I am sure that bugs would thrive in such hothouse conditions.
