I had been referred to attend the Gynaecological Assessment Unit by my GP as my coil had ruptured my uterus and its exact location needed to be located by CT scan. I needed to have my 4 month old baby with me as she is exclusively breastfed and as such when I was admitted to the ward, I was given a side room. My baby could not stay with me during the night but the ward worked with us to put a plan in place should she continue not to take a bottle. Whilst on the emergency list, given the nature of my situation, I was easy to move down the list and I entirely understand the reasons for this. I felt consulted every step of the way and where delays occurred, they were fully explained to me. The NHS hits the headlines regularly over levels of care, but I felt well attended to and cared for. Every person I came into contact with showed a high level of care and understanding. I felt that the nurses in gynaecology and ward 13 in particular went the extra mile. Whether it be coming to see me on the ward at the end of their shift or being completely on the ball and ready for me when I was admitted. Despite being admitted for a relatively short period of time, it was easy to build up a rapport with the nurses. I was upset at being away from my daughters, especially my baby given her disinterest in a bottle, but all those I came into contact with made my stay away from home easier to bear.

It is extremely pleasing to read of your positive experience and to know that you were reassured about your baby whilst undergoing surgery. Thank you for your comments which have been fed back to the gynaecology and ward 13 staff.
