"lost notes!"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

Anything else?

I recently had an appointment to see the orthopedics team, this is a follow up appointment made in January when i last saw someone. I arrived ten minutes before my appointment time, then had to wait 45 mins to see someone. I did not see the consultant just another registra, different to the last one i saw. After a couple of minutes it became clear that the notes the doctor had were old notes from over 17 years ago and of no use. I had moved out of the area and moved back 10 months ago. None of my notes from the last 16 years have arrived from my previous doctor even though the man i saw in January said he was going to request them, and the notes that were made for me in January along with all the copies of letters i had given him from my previous surgeon had somehow disappeared! The nurse blamed the change to digital for the loss of the notes. I have tried to contact the current secretary of my new surgeon to give her the details of my previous surgeons secretary to chase the notes up but despite many attempts to contact her within the hours stated on her answer machine message, i still can't get hold of her, or any of her colleagues! Now while all this is going on i am receiving no treatment as the doctor said he can't do anything until he sees my old notes I feel totally let down and each time i try to sort it out myself - which i shouldn't have to do - i get more and more upset. I feel like a burden and a pest but all i want is the treatment i need. I cannot understand why in this day and age notes are not there!
