"Waited 24 Hours to find out 17 year old daughter had had a Stroke."

My daughter who was 17 years of age at the time suffered a Stroke in February 2013.

She was taken to the A and E Department by ambulance after waiting 1 and a half hours before the ambulance turned up after phoning 999.

We then waited another 3 and a half hours before we saw a doctor who immediately asked for a CT Scan. They told us they thought that she had Meningitis.

By midnight she was admitted to AMU(L) at the N & N University Hospital where the staff then moved her to Dunston Ward and didn't tell us.

She then had a MRI Scan 24 hours after being admitted to hospital where they found out that she had had a Stroke.

We were sorry to hear of your daughter’s stroke and that you feel she did not receive the immediate attention she should have done. If you are unhappy about her treatment it may be helpful to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). PALS is an independent organisation, there to ensure that the NHS listens to patients, their relatives, carers and friends, answers their questions and resolves their concerns as quickly as possible. I am sorry to hear that your daughter waited 1 and a half hours for an ambulance to turn up after you called 999 for her.
