"Ward 4, 5 and Delivery Suite at Good Hope Hospital"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Good Hope's Fothergill Block to have my labour induced due to a overdue pregnancy.

For 3days - I was admitted to Ward 4 (Maternity Assessment Unit)

For 1 day - I was on the Delivery Suite / Theatre

For 3 days - I was admitted to Ward 5

My experience from start to finish of the Maternity Area of Good Hope was excellent - my experience was so good due to many factors including;

The caring & kind staff

The full explanation to every decision being made

The expertise & knowledge shown by each member of staff came into contact with

The overall standards of the Maternity Sector at Good Hope

I came into contact with some lovely members of staff on Ward 4 who helped me when I began my induction of labour. Being a first time mum, and particularly anxious and scared as to the coming days/nights I found each Midwife / Maternity Support Worker / Sister / Doctor / Anaesthetist / Nurse / Health Care Assistant to go above the call of duty in making me feel comfortable and safe during my time at the hospital.

Once the induction had begun to take action, and I was moved down to the Delivery Suite, I was notified that my unborn baby was showing signs of distress on the CTG monitor and would therefore need to be whisked to the theatre for an Emergency C Section.

By this point I had already received pain relief in the form of an Epidural, therefore in the time the decision was made to proceed with the C Section to the safe delivery of my baby boy was around 30 minutes.

I will be personally thanking each staff member who helped deliver my little boy as he had a few complications and needed to be taken to the Special Care Baby Unit.

They handled it very well, and made sure his health was priority number 1. Not once did I feel nervous or scared, I knew that he was in the right hands and would be OK.

After spending a few hours in recovery due to a high blood loss, I was finally able to go and see my little boy on the SCBU unit - the staff on this Ward in particular are second to none - to name a few who stood out; Alison, Sue, Barbara, Flo and all the other nurses who took care of my little boy during the 6 days he was on SCBU.

All in all a great experience, and will definitely recommend Good Hope as a choice destination for the birth of their children.

Thank You Once Again! !

Dear ELC88, This is really lovely feedback, thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to post. It is very pleasing to hear of your experiences and I know the staff will be delighted too - they are very proud of their service and work very hard to make it the best they possibly can.

I hope you are recovering well from your C section and that you are enjoying your time with your little boy. Very best wishes and, once again, thank you for posting

Regards, Mark
