"Wonderful treatment by the NHS"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

On 29th July 2013 our 9 year old girl suffered from seizures. The ambulance service responded within 20 minutes and the staff gave appropriate treatment and were very kind in treating the patient efficiently, giving information and comforting us. On arrival at the Lister she was immediately taken to an A&E paediatric bed. From then on she was surrounded by about 3 - 10 staff for seven hours. They concentrated on trying to treat her, working as a team, allowed us to be present and when possible explained what was happening and gave us full information. We were given a private room to sit in while treatment needs meant we should not be present but we were advised we could go back when we wanted or speak to a member of staff at any time about concerns/questions. They treated her and us with great respect and kindness. She was eventually transferred using CATS to Adenbrooks PICU and again the whole transfer of care was carried out in the most professional way. I would like to give immense thanks to ALL the staff involved who were so committed to help her, yet also prioritised keeping us informed and supported. The ambulance and medical staff recognised how traumatic this was for us and the kind squeeze on my arm, smiles, explanations including practical offers of seats, cups of tea meant a great deal. At a time when the NHS is suffering shortages and frequent criticism, I was highly impressed and grateful for the resources put into this emergency and by the care and commitment shown by all involved. If you were involved, you may like to know she has fully recovered and is currently enjoying a holiday in Spain. With all my thanks.

We're all delighted to hear that your daughter has made a full recovery and is enjoying a well-earned holiday with you in Spain. We know that our children's A&E team at the Lister will say that this was all in a day's work, but we also know they will be chuffed to bits to read your kind words - which we will make sure they get to read asap! Many thanks again for getting in touch and may we wish you all - and especially your daughter - the very best for the future.
