I would like to express my appreciation for the treatment I received during my recent visit to the A&E Dept. I am currently undergoing a course of chemotherapy at Clatterbridge CC, and suffer from occasional bouts of high temperature which need to be investigated in case they are the result of infection, which would require prompt treatment. I had an incident last week which necessitated my visiting the hospital in the evening with my wife. I have had to do this on several occasions, but never when the Department has been so busy. We had to remain on seats in the centre of the A&E area for about 3 hours before a cubicle became available, but during this time a nurse and then a doctor took blood samples and examined me in what must have been difficult circumstances for them. I was also sent for an X-ray and then given antibiotics intravenously, once in the cubicle. Staff said that the department was very busy most evenings now, and if that is the case, it would appear that more resources are required. The doctor decided to monitor my condition further, and I was kept in an A&E bed overnight, being seen by a medical doctor during this time, who again examined me thoroughly and discussed his findings with me. The following morning I was transferred to the acute medical ward, where I was again monitored throughout the day, and seen by both a doctor from that unit, and one from Clatterbridge. This was useful as I was able to discuss my treatment there with him. I was discharged later that day as my temperature had remained low, and the blood results did not show cause for concern. Although they were busy, the staff took time to address our concerns and discuss treatment with me throughout my stay. I know that people readily criticize hospitals when the service they receive falls below expectations, but it is nice to be able to praise them when you are pleased with events, as I was in this case, particularly considering the pressures on the staff and facilities.
