Anything else?
Following a blood test by my GP and finding that I had a high PSA result I was referred to the DRI for investigation. I had family members whose earlier experiences at the DRI and all the bad publicity of the NHS in general did not give me a warm cosy feeling about what I could expect. From the outset at my first clinic appointment all the reservations and bad feelings about my impending treatment started to disappear. Being diagnosed with the big 'C'; in my case Prostate Cancer is an unnerving and emotional experience. My diagnosis progressed quickly with examinations, biopsies, scans of various types I was diagnosed and referred onto the specialist unit at Sheffield within a few weeks. There were many people involved in my diagnosis both at DRI and Bassetlaw Hospital (MRI Scan) and I would not want to select any individual for specific praise for this would be unjust to the others involved. What I would like to say is that in absolutely all cases my treatment from all staff members was impeccable, two bigger 'C' words came to the fore, these were Care and Compassion and this was shown to me at every turn. I have now had my surgery and hopefully on the road to recovery. My heartfelt thanks to all those involved in getting me onto this road.
