"Squint operation - part 1"

About: Royal Eye Infirmary

Anything else?

I was referred for squint investigation years ago. Years of having eyes measured but nothing done, at one period because of the bureaucratic management rules that stops one attending an outpatient appointment if one becomes an inpatient. Finally due for operation to correct squint 21/12/12 but cancelled on 20/12/12. Told it would be in February, queried beginning March and told it would be in May. Then told it was postponed because I had heart problems,(that I did not and never have had). It turns out that a nurse had misread my hospital notes and would not listen to me; she had interpreted the fact that I was to have an ILR fitted as meaning that I had suffered a heart attack. After all I am mentally disabled with Asperger’s Syndrome and am used to being assumed to be either a bit gaga or even possibly dangerous. I suggested that Ophthalmology write to Cardiology and they got a reply saying that I had no heart problem affecting anaesthesia. So operation of right eye set for 2/8/13 and 18 weeks from referral to treatment hopelessly missed.
