About: Kettering General Hospital

Anything else?

I was admitted to Kettering general recently and was not at all a happy woman. A & E was good no problem there. I was then admitted to Deene A no problem there, then I was moved to Deene B. That was not a experience I would like to repeat. 2 days no heart medication I had a pacemaker fitted just over a week before and heart rate was raised the medication was to lower it. nurse gave wrong doses of medication (which I had to point out twice) I am in a wheelchair and was took downstairs for some fresh air and completely forgot about for over an hour (friends passing took me back onto the ward) in extreme heat. A bay of 5 beds with no fans in extreme heat (with a lot of complaining we got 1 fan the first day then 2 fans on day 3 still not enough)a cleaner found the second fan along with another 3 sitting doing nothing in an office. Consultant came to talk to me about my gallbladder (I was not the patient he wanted there is nothing wrong with my gallbladder) Most of the time it was agency nurses who had no idea what they were doing or where anything was. There was not enough staff (if you pressed your buzzer for help it took over 30 minutes to get a response) They took my canular out just before I left and the cotton wool and tape was placed an inch above the site. 3 weeks later I am still waiting for follow up appointments even after phoning last week (was told I needed another CT scan in 3 weeks) I have been in Kettering General before with no complaints but this was the first time on Deene B and it was not an experience I would like to repeat.

Thank you for taking the time to highlight a number of issues of concern during your inpatient stay. I am very sorry that your experience on one of our Surgical wards was far from satisfactory and that standards did not meet the Trust’s high expectations on this occasion. I am very keen to understand these issues in more detail in order to work through these with the Ward Sister and her ward team. I would therefore be grateful if you could contact me via our PALS service on 01536 493305 or email pals@kgh.nhs.uk to discuss further. I am pleased that your experience in the A&E Department and Deene A Ward was more positive. Again please accept my apologies.
