"Child seen in A&E & outpatients"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital

Anything else?

My child has been continously seen in this hospital in A&E & in outpatients. As a paediatric nurse I am fully aware of how a competent health service should run. My child fell off a slide & was seen in A&E displaying all the signs for a pulled elbow. He was not x-rayed which was not the problem, but was not treated for a pulled elbow so was reluctant to use it for a further 3 days. I took him to my hospital where I work & they manipulated his elbow which he then began to start using. Furthermore, we have been to your outpatient clinic for hearing tests where my child was instructed to hit a hammer against a table after heading a bleep (not with headphones), not only was the doctor aggressive towards my son she did not fully assess him & taking his hesitation to hit the hammer as a yes he heard the sound & passed him on the hearing test. My son was referred by the health visitor as I had told them his speech is not developing... a year later from the referral he was seen by a speech therapist who failed to examine his mouth & thought from her assessment that he would benefit from group speech therapy which was to start 5 months later. Not happy with this service i enlisted a prvate speech therapist who examined his mouth & found he had a submucous cleft palate, she also felt that he had some form of hearing loss from her assessment & made a urgent referral to the paediatric audiolgist who used headphones & found that he had fluctuating hearing loss! In the trust where I work this is disgusting & if I was a parent with any medical background this would have been undiscovered for a very long time
