"To the fantastic care on CITU"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

Anything else?

Dad was transferred to Blackpool for investigations to have stents following a mild heart attack. On Monday 15th April he had a triple by-pass. For the purposes of this review I would not like to elaborate on the complications which arose after surgery, I'm sure anyone who reads this from the CITU will know only too well. However the final upshot is he spent 92 days on the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. It was a very traumatic time for our family as Dad recovered from one crisis only to leap headfirst into another. In all that time he was treated with the utmost respect and dignity, being shaved every day, even when he was sedated. The staff on the unit became his surrogate family during the times we were not there. We really appreciated the support they gave the rest of the family during some of our more difficult visits, always happy to take phone calls at any time of the day and night; quite often giving us the glimmer’s of hope we needed. Once Dad started to begin to recover, staff would even take him out to the garden so he could get some fresh air. We also want to thank the physiotherapists who worked on him almost everyday to try and get his muscles working again, to the SALT team who got him eating again, and to the staff on Ward 38 just prior to his transfer to Chorley. He finally transferred to Chorley Hospital on 23rd July and thanks to all the devoted staff on CITU we are starting to believe there will be a recovery. The Blackpool staff saved his life on more than one occasion and we are now looking forward to the day he can come home, if it had not been for their care and dedication this would not have been possible. Thanks to you all Dad is back with us and if it hadn't been for all your patience, dedication, professionalism, love and prayers, I'm not sure any of us would have made it this far. Thankyou is far too small a word
